While other festivities around the country are winding down, Clonmel has begun celebrating and commemorating of its history and heritage. This year is as important to the people of Clonmel as the 1798 commemorations were to the people of Wexford. A marvellous fireworks display began the festivities commemorating the 350th anniversary of the great Cromwellian siege of the town.
An Ecumenical Celebration with lighting and blessings of the community millennium flame at the famous west gate of the city also took place, before the skies over Clonmel became a blaze of light and colour with a marvellous fireworks display.
