The two Libyan suspects in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing are to face trial for conspiracy, the main judge in the pre-trial hearing in the Netherlands has ruled. The trial will begin on May 3rd, three months later than initially scheduled. The judge rejected their lawyers request for the charges to be dropped. Lord Sutherland said that he was satisfied that the Scottish courts do have jurisdiction to hear the case. Abdel-Basset Ali as-Megrahi and Al-Amin Khalifa Fahima are both charged in relation to the bombing which resulted in the deaths of 270 people.
