Mr Murphy Junior said that he was working on an important contract in England on June 8 1989 and could not have been present when the Ray Burke payment was made as alleged by James Gogarty. On the days around the June 8 he was at a wedding in Waterford and a family funeral in Roscommon. He produced a travel document and car hire documents to back this up. A number of his alibis are also due to give evidence.

He described James Gogarty as an untrustworthy person. He said that he had interrupted a company meeting threatening to destroy the Murphys if the row over his pension was not solved.

Today the Tribunal sought details of any bank account held by Joseph Murphy Senior in Ireland over the past 24 years. In October, Senior had told the Tribunal he had no such accounts, but today council for the Tribunal said they had since uncovered two joint accounts in Irish financial institutions.
