The Northern Secretary, Peter Mandelson, and David Trimble were heckled in Portadown, County Armagh, tonight as they arrived to rally support for the Mitchell peace deal. They were met by opponents of the Good Friday Agreement when they arrived at an Orange Hall where they were to address members of Mr Trimble's constituency association.

Ealier, one of David Trimble's advisers, London public relations consultant David Burnside, said that he could not support the Mitchell proposals unless the SDLP agreed to continue in government with Unionists should Sinn Féin be excluded. Mr Burnside is head of the Unionist Information Office in London and is a council member of the Ulster Unionists.
