The head of the country's biggest union has said the next national agreement should offer workers pay rises greater than the level of economic growth. SIPTU President Des Geraghty said that it was now pay-back time on wages, and the government and employers would have to recognise this. Mr Geraghty said that he hoped a new national agreement could be achieved, but even if it was not, the union would be seeking pay rises from employers on a company-by-company basis.
