The Labour Court has intervened in the dispute between SIPTU and the supermarket chain, Tesco. As a result, a strike by six hundred staff at stores in Athlone, Cavan, Edenderry, Mullingar and Portlaoise, due to begin tomorrow morning has now been deferred. The company wants to introduce new technology and increased flexibility, while SIPTU National Industrial Secretary, John Kane, says it wants uniform pay rates at stores across the country, as well as the introduction of shift pay for staff working between eight in the morning and ten at night.
