Security cameras captured the shooting
Armenia's prime minister has been killed in his own parliament, along with at least three other senior officials. Gunmen burst into the debating chamber and opened fire. They have now seized the parliament in Yerevan and are holding up to 50 people hostage inside the building.
The gunmen are reported to be ready to negotiate a "peaceful settlement" to the crisis. The building has been sealed-off and President Robert Kocharian has begun talks to try to secure the release of the hostages.
The motive for the attack is not yet clear. There are some reports that the gunmen claimed they were staging a coup d'etat.
