14 people are due to appear at a special court in Ennis today following a row between two travelling families in the town earlier this morning. Gardaí were called to a halting site at Ashline on the Kilrush Road in Ennis at about 10am this morning, after a dispute arose between a number of travellers. It is believed that the row initially started late last night and tensions erupted again this morning. The dispute became extremely serious at one stage and 20 gardaí had to be called in to try and restore order. Sixteen people were arrested; 6 were brought to Shannon and 10 to Ennis for questioning.

Gardaí seized a number of weapons including knives, slash hooks, baseball bats and rocks which will be presented in the court this afternoon. Some of those arrested had to be treated for minor injuries. Fourteen people, all men, will appear in court this afternoon charged with public order offences.
