General Pinochet, Faces extradition to Spain
Police in the Chilean capital, Santiago, have used a water canon and tear gas on supporters of the former military ruler, General Pinochet, during protests to mark the first anniversary of his arrest in London. 40 people were arrested. The clashes marred what had been until then a day of peaceful demonstrations by both supporters and opponents of the General. Last week, a ruling by a Court in London paved the way for General Pinochet's extradition to Spain to face torture charges. The charges date from the last 14 months of his 1973-1990 military rule.
