Sport: Bond resigns as Offaly managerSaturday 25 September 1999 19.03
Offaly Hurling was thrown into disarray last night when it was learned that Michael Bond has quit his post as manager. Now a special committee is to be set up by County Chairman, Brendan Ward to seek a replacement.
Bond took over from Michael “Babs” Keating in controversial circumstances after last season’s Leinster final defeat and guided the Faithful County to their second All-Ireland success of the ‘90’s via the back door. They lost the Leinster final to Kilkenny again this year in a defensive display that saw the “Cats” score five goals. They could not avail of the back door again, however, as Cork beat them in a close All-Ireland semi-final.
In other news Galway have won the Intermediate All-Ireland hurling final.
