Ireland's first addiction awareness campaign begins tomorrow in a effort to alert people to the growing dangers of drink and drugs. The nationwide campaign is being co-ordinated at Dublin's Rutland Centre to mark the 21 anniversary of its opening, but will also feature contributions from six other similar establishments throughout the country

Speaking today, Rutland Centre Director Maura Russell said that alcohol and drug misuse was continuing to rise, particularly among young people and women. As part of the week-long campaign which is sponsored by the Allied Irish Bank, a telephone helpline will be manned for eight hours on Thursday of this week.
