A man in his 20s has died at Bandon in West Cork from injuries he received in a flight at a house in the town in the early hours of the morning. The man had been put to bed in the house after the fight but died just after 10am this morning. A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The man had been drinking with a group of friends but returned early to the rented house in the town where he had been living. When others returned at about 2.00am a fight developed and the man, who is believed to be from the area, received a severe beating. He was put to bed by friends, but was in a serious condition when they checked on him this morning. They called the doctor, but the man died at the house just after 10.00am. A post mortem on the man's body will be carried out later.

Investigating Gardaí have now arrested a man in his 20s under the non-fatal offences against the persons act. He is being held at Bandon Garda Station where he can be detained for up to 12 hours.
