The Moriarty Tribunal has been given new statements, believed to relate to yesterday's evidence of donations to the fund for the late Brian Lenihan. The Tribunal adjourned early today to consider these new statements. It is hoped to call witnesses on the matter tomorrow.

Late yesterday evening, the former Director of Irish Permanent Building Society, Dr Edmund Farrell, turned up at the tribunal offices. Earlier, the inquiry was told that he felt the Society should donate money to Brian Lenihan when he was undergoing a liver transplant in the United States. It was also stated that two cheques from the Irish Permanent Building Society worth a total of £30,000 ended up in the account of Celtic Helicopters.

In the wake of this evidence, Charles Haughey broke a long silence yesterday evening, issuing a statement saying that funds for Brian Lenihan were properly managed.
