The public enquiry into Bloody Sunday has said that it will launch an appeal against last week's High Court decision in London granting anonymity to soldiers due to appear before it. A spokesman for the enquiry said that the decision to appeal reflected the considerable public importance of the issues raised in the High Court's Judicial Review.

Judges had ruled by a two-to-one majority that the Saville Enquiry reached a flawed conclusion when it said that the 17 men, who are mainly from the Parachute Regiment, must reveal their names when they give evidence, unless they can show special reasons for remaining anonymous.
