Sport: Ireland fined £25,000 for cancelled Yugoslavia matchThursday 17 June 1999 22.05
UEFA, Europe's football governing body, has decided to fine the Football Association of Ireland about £25,000 in punishment for abandoning the Euro 2000 qualifier with Yugoslavia earlier this month. The fixture did not go ahead because the Irish Government withheld granting visas to the Yugoslav squad. The money will be donated to the Red Cross. The match will be played in Ireland on a date yet to be agreed.
