Two men have been arrested in County Cork, as part of the Garda investigation into what may have been two attempted child abductions, in County Clare, on Tuesday. The two, who were driving a black jeep, were detained at a Garda checkpoint at Charleville about 6.30pm. Itis understood the men are English nationals. They have been brought to Mallow Garda station, and can be held for 12 hours.
The first incident happened in the village of Tulla at about five past seven yesterday evening. Two men in a black jeep pulled up alongside a seven-year-old girl and reached out and tried to grab her. She luckily managed to get away. About two hours later, in the village of Doonbeg, a black car or jeep with two men inside stopped and asked a seven-year-old boy to get into the car to help them find the Garda station. The child also ran away in this incident.
