London police reveal details of Dando murder

watch listen

Police in London have said that the television presenter Jill Dando was shot in the side of the head with a nine-millimetre semi-automatic pistol. At a news conference this morning at Scotland Yard, the officer in charge of the investigation said that the killer might have been waiting for her after she returned from a shopping trip.

The officer leading the murder hunt Detective Chief Inspector Hamish Campbell said that she was shot in the side of the head at very close range by a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. She had just returned from the nearby Hammersmith Mall shopping centre. The killer did not wear gloves or a mask and there was no evidence that a silencer was used.

The police will not rule out the possibility that the shooting was carried out by a professional hit man, but the chief inspector stressed they were examining all options including robbery, a stalker, or something related to Ms. Dando's private life.
