The Junior Minister for Housing has announced a comprehensive funding package, which will deliver 22,000 local authority houses over the next four years. Bobby Molloy told the Progressive Democrats Conference in Galway that he also aims to increase the output from the voluntary sector to 4,000 houses over the next four years.
Bobby Molloy told delegates at his party Conference that the state has never had to contend with the kind of demand for housing that we are now seeing. He called for a dynamic housing market capable of turning out 40,000 or 50,000 new homes every year.
He said that output has doubled in the last five years and the number of houses completed last year was an all-time record and figures for this year show a further increase. However, he said that there are still people who are dependent on the publicly funded social housing programme. To deal with their needs, he announced a multi annual local authority housing programme for which he has agreed the comprehensive funding programme with the Minister for Finance.
