Bill Clinton, Pledged to step up pressure on Belgrade
The US President, Bill Clinton, pledged to step up the political and economic pressure on Belgrade. At the opening of the anniversary summit, he warned President Milosevic that the alliance campaign would prevail.
Leaders of the 19 NATO countries are meeting in Washington today for a summit to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the military alliance. While the meeting will be dominated by the Kosovo crisis, the leaders are not expected to issue immediate declarations about future strategy. However the NATO Secretary General Javier Solana has already confirmed that plans for the deployment of a ground force are being drawn up.
