Wreckage from the 1988 Pan Am jet bombing
The United States and Britain have warned Libya that it has 30 days to hand over two suspects wanted in connection with the 1988 Pan Am jet bombing over Scotland. However the two countries have failed to obtain support from from all Security Council members for a specific ultimatum to be set by the 15-member council.
British relatives of victims who died in the bombing have attacked the decision, saying it will sabotage diplomatic efforts to bring the two men to trial. Neither the United States nor Britain has what steps they intend to take if Libya fails to hand over the suspects before the deadline. 270 people died in the explosion.
