Water shortages imminent, for Dublin city and county
Householders and businesses in Dublin City and county will face water shortages for the next four to five weeks. Supplies will be reduced, and in some areas they will be cut off on a regular basis.
Dublin Corporation says that the shortages are due to essential work on the Leixlip reservoir. Despite the heavy rainfall this winter, the other reservoirs supplying the city are low because of the rising population, the growth in industry and the huge increase in hotel accommodation.
The Deputy City Engineer, Tom Leahy, says that planned reductions are due to begin from midnight on Monday next.
