Police in Britain are considering bringing fresh charges against five white youths suspected of murdering Steven Lawrence, according to a report in a British Sunday newspaper. The black teenager died after a race attack five years ago.
The Sunday Telegraph said that a new team of police officers, appointed to reopen the investigation, after strong criticism of the police's handling of the case, had received legal advice that cleared the way for prosecution.
It has been widely assumed that none of the five could be prosecuted again over Stephen Lawrence's death because of the collapse of previous proceedings.
