Apple Computers, which is Cork's largest employer, says it has no plans to cease its manufacturing operations in the city.

Apple Computers, which is Cork's largest employer, says it has no plans to cease its manufacturing operations in the city. However, the company has declined to comment on reports of a corporate restructuring or its effects on approximately 1,000 people employed at the plant.

The trade union, SIPTU, has claimed that the company is moving one of its main production lines out of the Cork factory and plans to announce a significant number of job losses. SIPTU said today it believed the I-MAC computer production at the factory was under threat.

The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise and Employment says her department is monitoring the situation closely.
