Ahern and Schroeder fail to reach agreement

The Taoiseach and the German Prime Minister have disagreed over reforms of the Common agriculture Policy.

The Taoiseach and the German Chancellor have disagreed over reforms of the Common agriculture Policy. However, after his first meeting with Gerhard Schroder in Bonn this afternoon Mr Ahern said he was confident he could get a good deal for this country.

Germany is due to take over the EU presidency in January, and Mr Schroeder will have a key role as chairman of the funding discussions.
