    Tuesday 16th September
    Paul presents two great celebratory works in the concert tonight: the high spirits of Dvorak’s Carnival Overture and the spring-like freshness of Brahms’s Second Symphony. There is also the youthful passion of Bruch’s 1st Violin Concerto.

    The understated beauty and emotive power of Raymond Carver poems ‘This Word Love’, ‘No Need’ and ‘Late Fragment’ inspire Linda Buckley’s new work for choir and orchestra; Gabriella Montero returns for the thrills and spills of Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto while Rimsky-Korsakov’s hypnotically perfumed Scheherazade takes us into the exotic, fairytale realms of The Arabian Nights.

    Monday 22nd September
    Dutch violinist Janine Jansen performs as a chamber musician alongside pianist Itamar Golan and violinist-turned-conductor Sakari Oramo. Two richly coloured works by Prokofiev contrast with the Fantasie for violin and piano in which Schubert leans towards the sublime, less than a year before his death. This concert was recorded at Cadogan Hall, London on 11th August.

    Tuesday 23rd September 
    Paul Herriott presents tonight's concert by the Trondheim Symphony with two takes on Brahms' Violin Concerto in D. This concert was recorded live at the Philharmonic Hall, Warsaw in August.

    Thursday 25th September
    Paul brings us to the Royal Albert Hall, London .The London Symphony Orchestra is joined by noted Mahlerian Bernard Haitink, for the composer’s Fourth Symphony. Opening with one of Mahler’s most charming melodies, lit by sleigh-bells, it closes with a song offering a child’s-eye view of heaven, delivered here by soprano Camilla Tilling.
    Famously described as a ‘pearl of great price’, Schubert’s Fifth Symphony presents Classical perfection on a miniature scale. This compact symphony glows with melody and is as light on its feet as anything the composer ever wrote.
