The Lyric Concert with Paul Herriott

Tonight Paul brings us amongst other works a 20th century work that has vastly exceeded the expected lifetime sales of a typical symphonic recording -Gorecki 's Symphony of Sorrow

Watch: Friday 24th February, 8pm

Paul Herriott presents tonight's concert live from the National Concert Hall with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra in a celebration of Tchaikovsky. Led by the ‘dynamism and steely-finger energy’ (CultureNorthernIreland.com) of Belfast-born piano virtuoso Barry Douglas, our two-part celebration of the master of melody, Tchaikovsky, begins with a brace of tune-filled Piano Concertos: the First, resplendent with one of the most familiar and lavish themes in the repertoire, and his last work, the athletically graceful Third. The Tempest is a fantasy overture of dramatic richness, Romeo and Juliet a romantic and ripe evocation of Shakespeare’s young ‘star-crossed lovers’.
