    Richard Strauss wasn’t one to throw the baby out with the bathwater. His extraordinary Symphonica Domestica is a no-holds-barred musical diary of a day with the Strauss family, from the morning lie-in to bathtime with baby! Paul Herriott presents this concert recorded at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, June 2014.

    Friday 12th September 
    Paul presents the first concert of the 2014-2015 season live from the National Concert Hall. The season opens in style with principal conductor Alan Buribayev launching a survey of Beethoven’s four Fidelio Overtures with the energetic Leonore No. 1. Sayaka Shoji joins us for one of his compatriot’s most famous works, Sibelius’ epic Violin Concerto.

    Due to ill-health, violinist Pekka Kuusisto has withdrawn from tonight's concert and will be replaced by Sayaka Shoji. The programme will remain as advertised and includes Beethoven Leonore Overture No. 1 and R. Strauss Ein Heldenleben.

    Paul presents two great celebratory works in the concert tonight: the high spirits of Dvorak’s Carnival Overture and the spring-like freshness of Brahms’s Second Symphony. There is also the youthful passion of Bruch’s 1st Violin Concerto.
