The Blue of the Night with Eamonn Lenihan

    Nightly, 10pm - 1am

    Coming up on Friday's programme…

July 10. Louth Contemporary Music recently issued a recording of a Betty Olivero choral work, one performed by Trio Mediaeval, Cliona Doris (harp), Garth Knox (viola), Agnes Versterman (cello) and Sylvain Lemaitre (percussion). Olivero is a former pupil of Luciano Berio. On tonight's BLUE, Eamonn presents Olivero's "In the Sea there is a Tower", which gets its title from the first line of a Sephardi folk song. We'll also hear Trio Mediaeval from "Aquilonis" (see BLUE TUNES, below); new (but newly available) Al Di Meola; Nick Drake (pictured) from "Five Leaves Left"; vintage Amadeus Quartet;  an Art Pepper tune that was deidicated to the family pet; jazz wunderkind Joey Alexander; and a new recording of Beethoven's Violin Concerto In D by Thomas Gould. 10pm start...

The Blue of the Night with Eamonn Lenihan

This week, we feature a father and son, singer/songwriters both: in their comparatively brief careers, Tim and Jeff Buckley made music that was equally adventurous and tasteful.

    July 6th - 12th: Trio Mediaeval "Aquilonis"

All this week, we’ll be listening to the latest Trio Mediaeval CD. “Aquilonis” comprises Icelandic chant, early Italian sacred songs, contemporary Swedish works, 15th-century English carols and Norwegian folk melodies; and it’s the first time the singers have accompanied themselves on instruments.
