The Blue of the Night with Eamonn Lenihan

    Nightly, 10pm - 1am

    Coming up on Sunday's programme…

August 30. On tonight's BLUE, we'll hear King Crimson's "Matte Kudasi"; a concertino which Sergei Prokofiev did not live to finish (one that was actually completed by his friend Rostropovich, working from a piano score and the cellist's memories of conversations between the two men); a meditation by flautist Susie Hodder-Williams and gamelan-player Chris Caldwell; Gospel music by Leo Welch; Letka's brand of "far off country"; a new double CD on Evidence Classics that finds Dominique Vellard conducting Ensemble Gilles Binchois, but this time in the performance of his own music; Roland Hanna's "Muses For Richard Davis", as it appears on an MPS re-issue; No Crows' realisation of a Radiohead tune; the epilogue from Tarik O'Regan's Irish colloquy (see BLUE TUNES, below); singer/songwriter Francesca Baines; and sax-player Art Pepper (pictured) plays a ballad. 10pm start...

    August 24th - 30th: Acallam na Senórach

Acallam na Senórach is a setting by English composer Tarik O’Regan of a 12th Century text about the Fianna warriors Caílte mac Rónán and  Oisín, nephew of legendary Fionn Mac Cumhaill. O’Regan adapted the narrative into a one hour musical setting for solo guitar and chorus which was commissioned and recorded by Chamber Choir Ireland along with guitarist Stewart French. It’s under the Blue spotlight all this week.

    August31st - Septemeber 6th: Memphis Slim

Chatman was a blues pianist and singer who wrote enduring standards like “Everyday I Have The Blues”. He lived in France for the last 25 years of his life. In the week of the centenary of his birth, we’ll hear recordings made before and after he emigrated to Europe in 1963.
