Chatham Saxophone Quartet: April 27th - May 3rd

As RTÉ Lyric FM marks its 16th birthday on Friday of this week - we choose music and song from the extensive and highly thought of Lyric CD label which showcases Irish musical talent in both performance and composition. These selections will include a preview of a new release featuring the Chatham Saxophone Quartet (pictured) performing new Irish works.

    Keith Jarrett: May 4th - 10th

This Friday Keith Jarrett turns 70. He’s been at the forefront of jazz piano since his first recording back in 1967 with the late Charlie Haden up to his latest duo outing with the same bassist  in 2013 – not forgetting his renowned Standards Trio. Together for 30 years, they are one of most permanent line-ups in jazz history. Jarrett's reach goes far beyond jazz – renowned as an interpreter as well as an improviser. All this week on the Blue, we play Keith Jarrett – jazz, classical and solo improv. Happy Birthday Keith!

Blue of the Night Birthday Goody Bag

Thank you Eoin Brady, of the RTÉ lyric fm label, for the terrific prize.
