    Blue Tunes Recommended -

    July 20th - 26th: Helen Merrill

Helen Merrill sang with Charlie Parker in the 1940s. Though her first album was arranged by Quincy Jones (and featured trumpeter Clifford Brown), this American artist has achieved greatest recognition while living in Europe and Japan. Hear Helen recorded with Gordon Beck, Hank Jones, Stan Getz et al, each night this week on BLUE.

    July 27th - August 3rd: Nocturnes

They are described as a single-movement character piece usually written for solo piano. First created by Irishman John Field – forever associated with Frederic Chopin - but the list of nocturne composers is extensive. We’ll draw from that list all week – the dictionary defines them as “inspired by, or evocative of, the night”. Nocturnes - the perfect fit for The Blue Of The Night.
