    Nightly, 10pm - 1am

Coming up on the next programme…

April 19. "Composing means finding something that I had absolutely no idea of when I started..." - Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen. On tonight's BLUE, Eamonn presents a sample of Abrahamsen's music from a new release on the Winter & Winter label; also coming our way this Sunday night, a recent recording by jazz trumpeter Paolo Fresu; violinist Rachel Kolly d'Alba's reading of a work by Ernest Chausson; a traditional song from Kosovo; a Matt Dennis song, as well as the man himself, interpreting someone else's material; two more performances by The Unthanks (see BLUE TUNES, below); a sample from a recent CD of concertos for the organ (composed by Giuseppe Sammartini in the early 18th century); a medley of Paul Simon (pictured) material; and a jazz piano trio led by Giovanni Guidi. 10pm start...

    The Unthanks: April 13th - 19th

They have interpreted songs by Robert Wyatt and Antony & the Johnsons, a rousing brass band collaboration and captured the folk history of their native Northumbria.  Now The Unthanks, led by sisters Rachel and Becky, release a studio album that is folk tinged yet contemporary. A recent Dublin appearance was hailed as "magnificent". "Mount The Air" is our featured album. Hear it, along with their back catalogue – nightly at 10.

    Sinikka Langeland: April 20th - 26th

Sinikka Langeland, a graduate of the University of Oslo, has studied piano, guitar and contemporary folksong. Since 1981, she's been especially interested in the kantele, or table harp. We'll hear original compositions from "The half-finished Heaven", her latest ECM release, all this week on BLUE.
