Carl Corcoran was joined for a very special Blue of the Shortest Night, a live concert broadcast from Studio 1 in the RTÉ Radio Centre. In association with Music Network, the Blue of the Night presented an evening of live music, showcasing some of the finest musical talent in the country.
The line-up included Baroque folk music from Sonamus, a unique combination of instruments performed by Cormac Breatnach (susato whistles), Annette Cleary (cello), Rachel Factor (harpsichord) and Eamon Sweeney (baroque guitar). A violin trio brought together Katherine Hunka, Ioana Petcu-Colan and Helena Wood for music ranging from classical to contemporary. And hailing from Béal Átha an Ghaorthaidh in the Múscraí Gaeltacht of northwest Cork, sean nós singer Nell Ní Chróinín.
The exceptionally talented Aoife Doyle Band starred some of the Blue's favourite jazz musicians including Aoife on vocals, Johnny Taylor (piano), Andrew Csibi (double bass) and Dominic Mullan (drums). and to round it off, The Chatham Saxophone Quartet. All this guaranteed that this special Blue of the Shortest Night will live long in the memory.
