Nightly, 10pm - 1am

The Blue of the Night with Carl Corcoran Thursday 28 November 2013

This Week on Blue....

With his unique genre-bending blend of bluegrass, jazz, folk and classical styles, Grammy-nominated fiddler Darol Anger is a master of the unexpected, darting from Swedish polkas to Brazilian choro before segueing seamlessly into a soul classic - all delivered with the rollicking abandon of a hootenanny. He has worked alongside great improvisers such as Stéphane Grappelli, Martin Hayes, Jerry Douglas and Béla Fleck and produced an array of critically-acclaimed albums. He embarks on a Music Network tour this week and his catalogue is under the Blue Spotlight all week. Darol and his Republic of Strings visit with Carl on Tuesday night.

And Last Week on Blue....

You can listen again here to Luka Bloom's visit with Carl:

Meredith Monk, a source of amazement in American new music for nearly half a century is under the spotlight - a tireless explorer of the voice and vocal sounds.

LOUIS REMEMBERED

It's been a sad year for the music world with the loss of many iconic figures. One of our own legends, jazz guitarist Louis Stewart left us earlier this year. Louis' musical legacy is recognised and lauded in the international jazz world. At home in Ireland, where he chose to base himself even at the peak of his international fame, he became a friend and mentor to many in a burgeoning jazz community. His loss is immense. In March 2014, Louis was the featured artist on The Blue of the Night with Carl Corcoran. This special programme features many of Louis' wonderful performances and his chat with Carl, recalling his early days and the highlights of his international career.
