The Blue of the Night with Carl Corcoran

    Nightly, 10pm - 1am

Coming up on the next programme...

Aug 5: On Wednesday's BLUE, Neil Young reminds us about personal responsibility; John Lennon holds on; we've a less giddy - and much slower - "Please, Please Me" by Wyckham Porteous; a fandango by Boccherini; water music by Robert Fripp; the late Montserrat Figueras' superb performance of a Provencale "Sibyl"; 2 Bacharach songs; an acoustic reading of Weather Report's "Black Market" by Pakistan-born Rez Abbasi; Philip Glass' "Facades"; singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier; 3 compositions by Ravel; Louis Armstrong, singing Fats Waller (see BLUE TUNES, below); and original music by Keaton Henson. Eamonn is again in the BLUE chair from the usual start-time of 10pm...

    August 4th - 10th: Louis Armstrong

Jazz music and Louis Armstrong grew up together. Both were from turn-of–the-20th-century New Orleans. An astounding an innovative soloist, “Satchmo” (short for "Satchelmouth") came to be known as a popular entertainer and an “ambassador” for jazz. Hear him nightly, in the week of the anniversary of his birth, interpreting everyone from Cole Porter to Fats Waller.
