Saturday 23rd August - Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice
Bernard Clarke presents Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (critical version) based on the myth of Orpheus. Orfeo ed Euridice is the first of Gluck's "reform" operas, in which he attempted to replace the abstruse plots and overly complex music of opera seria  with a "noble simplicity" in both the music and the drama. This production was recorded at Goteborg Opera. Laurence Cummings conducts the Goteborg Opera Orchestra and Chorus. Katarina Karneus plays Orfeo, Kerstin Avemo as Euridice and Mia Karlsson as Amore. (Katarina Karnéus and Kerstin Avemo in Orfeo Ed Euridice Photo Mats Bäcker)
