Puccini's La Boheme stars Met debuting Anita Hartig as the frail Mimi and star tenor Vittorio Grigolo as her passionate lover, Rodolfo

Saturday November 29th - Giasone by Francesco Cavalli

Bernard Clarke brings us an early operatic exploration by René Jacobs in his award winning interpretation of Francesco Cavalli’s Giasone recently released on the Harmonia Mundi label.  Loosely based on the story of Jason and the golden fleece, the opera was premiered at the Teatro San Cassiano, Venice, on January 5th 1649 during carnival, and it proved the single most popular opera of the 17th century. Countertenor Michael Chance sings Giasone and René Jacobs conducts Concerto Vocale.

Saturday December 6th - The Metropolitan Opera New York presents: Rossini’s Il Barbiere de Siviglia (The Barber of Seville)

Margaret Juntwait presents Bartlett Sher’s effervescent production of Rossini’s most popular opera The Barber of Seville. Isabel Leonard is the beautiful and feisty Rosina, who won’t be kept under lock and key. Lawrence Brownlee (Photo Ken Howard, Metropolitan Opera (c) 2007) is her conspiring flame, Almaviva, and Christopher Maltman is the omnipotent barber, Figaro. Michele Mariotti conducts the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
