    Each Saturday, from December to May, RTÉ lyric fm brings you the Metropolitan Opera’s Saturday matinee broadcasts direct from New York. The 84th season begins on December 6, 2014, with Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia, starring Isabel Leonard. Twenty-three broadcasts will be presented on the Toll Brothers–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network through May 9, 2014. Margaret Juntwait returns as the series’s host, joined by commentator Ira Siff.

    Borodin's defining Russian epic, Prince Igor - famous for its Polovtsian Dances, comes to the Met for the first time in nearly 100 years.

    Saturday 24th January - Puccini’s La Boheme
    Franco Zeffirelli’s classic take on Puccini’s most popular opera, the immortal tale of tragic young love, is set among the rooftops of bohemian Paris. The role of the fragile Mimì is sung by Sonya Kristine Opolais, with Jean-François Borras as the love-sick poet Rodolfo. Riccardo Frizza conducts the Metropolitan( Opera Orchestra and Chorus.     Saturday January 31st - Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann
    Vittorio Grigolo plays the tortured poet and unwitting adventurer of the title. The heroine is played by Hibla Gerzmava.
