Jean-Paul Fouchécourt sings Acis and Veronique Gens (pictured) sings Galatée, in an acclaimed 1998 recording by the Les Musiciens du Louvre and Choeur des Musiciens du Louvre under the baton of Marc Minkowski.
Saturday 25th April - Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana & Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci
Opera’s most enduring tragic double bill returns in an evocative new production from Sir David McVicar, who sets the verismo action across two time periods but in the same Sicilian setting. Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci. Eva-Maria Westbroek (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Patricia Racette (Pagliacci) play the unlucky heroines. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium for tonight’s broadcast.
