Opera Night - La Forza del Destino

Bernard Clarke presents La Forza del Destino, a complex work with moments of gentle beauty.

    Saturday 25th April - Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana &  Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci
Opera’s most enduring tragic double bill returns in an evocative new production from Sir David McVicar, who sets the verismo action across two time periods but in the same Sicilian setting. Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci. Eva-Maria Westbroek (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Patricia Racette (Pagliacci) play the unlucky heroines. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium for tonight’s broadcast. Saturday 2nd May - Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera
Tenor Piotr Beczala sings King Gustavo for the first time at the Met in his very first collaboration with Music Director James Levine. Sondra Radvanovsky, Dolora Zajick, and Dmitri Hvorostovsky reprise their acclaimed interpretations in the revival of David Alden’s film noir-inspired production.
