    Each Saturday, from December to May, RTÉ lyric fm brings you the Metropolitan Opera’s Saturday matinee broadcasts direct from New York. The 84th season begins on December 6, 2014, with Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia, starring Isabel Leonard. Twenty-three broadcasts will be presented on the Toll Brothers–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network through May 9, 2014. Margaret Juntwait returns as the series’s host, joined by commentator Ira Siff.

    The 3rd instalment of Wagner's Ring Cycle with Jay Hunter Morris as the title hero, Deborah Voigt as Brünnhilde and Mark Delavan as the Wanderer. Fabio Luisi conducts.

    Saturday 18th April - Acis et Galatée by LullyAs the Metropolitan Opera takes a break this week, Vlad Smishkewych presents Lully’s final masterpiece and his last completed opera – Acis et Galatée. Jean-Paul Fouchécourt sings Acis and Veronique Gens (pictured) sings Galatée, in an acclaimed 1998 recording by the Les Musiciens du Louvre and Choeur des Musiciens du Louvre under the baton of Marc Minkowski.

    Saturday 25th April - Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana &  Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci
    Opera’s most enduring tragic double bill returns in an evocative new production from Sir David McVicar, who sets the verismo action across two time periods but in the same Sicilian setting. Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci. Eva-Maria Westbroek (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Patricia Racette (Pagliacci) play the unlucky heroines. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium for tonight’s broadcast.
