Marvin Hamlisch
The renowned songwriter, conductor and pianist Marvin Hamlisch performs in concert with THE RTÉ Concert Orchestra. the man behind film scores including his Oscar-winning score and song for The Way We Were and his adaptation of Scott Joplin's music for "The Sting", for which he received a third Oscar. His groundbreaking show, "A Chorus Line", received the Pulitzer Prize. We'll hear hit numbers from these as well as tributes to Cole Porter and Jerome Kern.
Bernard Herrmann
A celebration this afternoon of the movie music of Bernard Herrmann, including highlights from the concert 'Music to be Murdered By - The Music of Bernard Herrmann' featuring the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Aedín Gormley also talks to Herrmann's widow Norma, to learn a little more about this brilliant composer.
John Barry interview - podcast
The renowned film-score composer John Barry sadly passed away on Sunday January 30th, aged 77. In June 2007, Aedín travelled to his home in New York and spoke to John about how he got into the business, the early James Bond films, his award winning soundtracks and the art of film scoring. Presented by Movies and Musicals and hosted by Aedín Gormley, the concert featured some of his most famous film scores performed by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Nicholas Dodd.
