RTE lyricfm are delighted to showcase some of the recipients of the recent "Georgina Campbell Irish Breakfast Awards 2018" - In Association with Fáilte Ireland with a prize each day to celebrate their success, culminating with a special short break prize on Friday.

This week it's Hayfield Manor, Cork

Cork city’s only 5 star hotel, Hayfield Manor has all the charm of a country house. Uniquely set within two acres of beautiful gardens, it is often described as a "Haven in the City". While conveniently located across from the UCC Campus and just 5 minutes from the City Centre, it is set in leafy gardens with private parking, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Hayfield Manor is home to two fine restaurants - Perrotts Garden Bistro is the hotel’s popular casual dining venue & Hayfield Manor’s signature restaurant, Orchids, features the finest in contemporary Irish cuisine

Hayfield Manor is also home to The Beautique Spa, one of the best spas in Cork City, with Elemis trained Spa therapists and luxurious Elemis products. With features including seven individual treatment rooms, indoor heated pool and outdoor Jacuzzi, it’s a place to "Relax the body and mind, and revive the soul".

Friday’s Big Prize:  Dinner and a Luxurious Overnight Stay for Two at Hayfield Manor, Cork
(Highly Commended in the "Georgina Campbell Irish Breakfast Awards 2018" - In Association with Fáilte Ireland, in the 5 Star Hotel category.)

This terrific prize includes dinner in the hotel’s signature Orchids Restaurant, known for its contemporary dining experience, a bottle of house wine to enjoy with your meal, a luxurious overnight stay - and, of course, a magnificent breakfast the next morning.

An introduction to Hugo.

Hugo reports on the slightly odd events that unfold in his country house. His life is dominated by his interaction with his wife Daphne, her mother Myrtle, and a coterie of relatives.

The household includes Soledad, a Catalan woman who was previously their au pair.

She is now married to Hugo’s nephew Lorcán, who proudly holds the BA(Mod) from TCD. Soledad and Lorcán are the parents of twins, Síofra and Iarla. Great things are expected of them. Soledad was succeeded as au pair by Tadeusz, a young Polish man.

Hugo and Daphne have two adult twin children, Jolyon and Irene, though Irene has never been present, and we learn of her life at second hand. Jolyon’s American friend Randy pops up from time to time.

The family are self-consciously cultured by temperament. Daphne has artistic aspirations, and her sister Heather’s husband has delusions of being an intellectual. The household members have the ordinary appetites for the best of radio. They are always at the forefront of fashion in their television preferences. They augment this through repeated immersion in High Culture. They are passionate about opera, interested in theatre and have been known to visit art galleries.

Especially one's like this from Mark Bourke who says...

'Marty on Lyric is my inoculation from anything the day can throw at me, he’s up there with Byrne, Wogan & Andrews as Ireland’s greatest broadcaster.'..........Thank you Mark......Tenner in the post!!

Other messages......

His morning show on Lyric is quite simply the best radio in Ireland. He has such a perfect delivery. An encyclopaedia of clever dadjokes and puns but with a light touch, never hanging on for the applause. Reminds me of a jolly, self-deprecating Colonel Mustard.   Jonathan McCrea

...Thanks very much for all the good cheer every morning Marty and never going on about all the bad news out there!! You are a tonic to be sure!! ........Patricia in Offaly

....Good morning Marty, I am a nurse working on night duty and listen to lyric through the night. Always glad to hear your dulcet tones at 7am as I know I will be off duty soon. .... Keep up the good work and music and the 'corny' jokes....Moira in Dublin 6
