This Tuesday, March 21st, RTÉ lyric fm celebrates European Day of Early Music with a live broadcast from King John’s Castle in Limerick, concerts from Ireland, Belgium, Germany and the best of Early Music throughout the day on all our programmes
LIZ NOLAN’S LYRIC NOTES
Liz Nolan presents great classical music from across the ages. Today is the European Day of Early Music and the Coffee Concert at 10.30am comes from St Joseph’s Church in Galway and features a performance by Eva Legêne, recorders, Conor Hastings, cornetto, Stephanie Dyer, sackbut, and Yonit Kosovske, harpsichord and chamber organ. The programme, ‘Col vento e’l tasto – Music of the Seicento for Winds and Keyboard’ includes works by Johann-Hermann Schein, Dario Castello, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Tarquinio Merula and Johann Schop.

Join Lorcan Murray and special guests as they celebrate European Early Music Day from King John's Castle, Limerick with live music from Kathleen Loughnane (harp), The Gregory Walkers, medieval violin player Michelle O'Connor and many more. Lorcan will explore the lives and adventures of medieval musicians and troubadours with her guests including recorder-player extraordinaire Laoise O'Brien.

THE LYRIC CONCERT WITH PAUL HERRIOTT
Michael Lee brings us some Early Music Concerts from around Europe as we celebrate this genre all day on lyric. From the Wallonie Festival in Brussels we have the music of Lully, Tessier, Amiot, Guedron, Grandi, Kapsperger and Dutronc with Le Poème Harmonique and Ud player and vocalist Khaled Aljaramani. Plus we travel to the Regensburg Early Music Festival for Ballads and madrigals by Firenze performed by ClubMedieval.

THE BLUE OF THE NIGHT WITH CARL CORCORAN
On European Day of Early Music Carl Corcoran is joined by Francesco Turrisi (pictured) for a chat about his music which often draws on Early Music for its framework. Hear highlights from Francesco's performances with Marco Ambrosini, master of the Nyckelharpa, (a keyed fiddle traditional to Sweden), and Viola da Gamba virtuoso Rodney Prada.
