On Saturday June 21st as part of the Limerick City of Culture 2014 celebrations, RTÉ lyric fm played host to a gala performance by Sir James Galway and a host of special guests, of an evening of celebrating the music of Limerick-born Bill Whelan. The concert included the world premiere of a new work by Whelan, Linen and Lace.
The concert was broadcast live from the University Concert Hall, Limerick and featured Sir James Galway on flute, Zoë Conway (violin), Catherine Leonard (violin), dancer Colin Dunne and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gavin Maloney. The programme included Carna: An Chistin, the Riverdance Symphonic Suite, Inishlacken and Linen and Lace (RTÉ lyric fm commission).
