Gay Byrne
Gay Byrne joined Radio Éireann in 1958 and has had a large following for his many sponsored programmes, Jazz Corner, Music on the Move and others. He became best known for his daily radio show, The Gay Byrne Show (1973-1998).
Gay was also a television newsreader on RTÉ in its first year. From there, he introduced many successful and popular shows such as, Jackpot, Pick of the Pops, Film Night, Rose of Tralee, Housewife of the Year and others. The television show which made him a household name was The Late Late Show, of which he was host and executive producer. The Late Late Show was Ireland's top-rating talk show. It began in 1962 and in 1999, Gay's reign as presenter of the programme came to an end.
