Aodán Ó Dubhghaill was appointed Head of RTÉ lyric fm in 2002. Aodán's career in radio started on a pirate radio station in Dublin (as a presenter!) in the 1970's.
He joined RTÉ in 1979 and, prior to his appointment as Head of lyric, worked in a variety of areas in radio as a sound effects man, sound engineering for programmes, bands and orchestras and producing day-time programmes, documentaries and drama.

In 1998 Aodán worked as a member of the creative team in the set-up of RTÉ lyric fm prior to its launch on the 1st of May 1999. During 1999 he was appointed Senior Producer with responsibilities for the popular request programme, Lyric Lunchtime, along with Reels to Ragas (world music) and a variety of traditional music programmes. He was also instrumental in the launch of lyric's CD label.

He is a keen fiddle player and an ex-member of the Irish Youth Orchestra and various traditional groups.

The RTÉ Educational Outreach Team visits 45 secondary schools annually bringing the 'Making Classical Music Radio Project' to transition year classes. The project is offered free of charge and introduces the students to the fundamentals of radio broadcasting and classical music programming.
