Sunday June 26th

Today we'll hear music by Leonard Bernstein, who became famous all over the world after he conducted an orchestra on live television in front of millions of people. (Watch the video below to see the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela perform his energetic Mambo!) We'll also hear music that was possibly written by Haydn, as we uncover the mystery of who wrote the String Quartets Op.3.

Sunday July 3rd

In the overture to his opera William Tell, Rossini painted a picture of breaking dawn, a Summer storm and the galloping horses of the Swiss army! We'll hear Rossini's overture on Sunday, and a duet he wrote for some meowing cats! We'll also hear piano music written for different fairytales by the composer Robert Schumann this week, telling the stories of Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin and Sleeping Beauty.

Classical Kids

Music by Johann Strauss II this morning - performed by a gypsy band and an orchestra - plus the story of Babar the Elephant with wonderful music by Francis Poulenc.
