Classical Kids Thursday 26 December 2013
The composer Ferde Grofe was as a milkman, a truck driver and an elevator operator before was ever a composer. Today we'll hear his Grand Canyon Suite, which includes music written for a thunderstorm. We'll also hear some different dances by some of the great composers - a waltz by Johann Strauss II, a Spanish dance by Ravel and ballet music by Khachaturian!
Camille Saint-Saens wrote his Carnival of the Animals Suite just for fun, and today we'll meet some his very musical members of the animal kingdom. We'll also meet some singing frogs and cats, and enjoy some musical fireworks!
Anyone know what time it is? Why, it's time to hear music written about clocks of course, including Haydn's Clock Symphony! We'll also hear music by the pianist and violinist Joaquin Rodrigo whose most famous piece of music for an instrument which he didn’t really play – the guitar! Tune in this morning for part of his sunny Concierto de Aranjuez which he wrote after visiting a Spanish palace.
