Classical Kids

Once upon a time there was a brave princess named Eliza whose brothers were turned into swans by a wicked witch. It's up to Eliza to save them by knitting shirts from stinging nettles, and we'll hear wonderful music written for the Hans Christian story by the composer Elena Kats-Chernin. We'll also hear one of the best, worst singers ever and we'll send you back to sleep this morning with beautiful lullabies from around the world.

You can now enjoy Classical Kids exclusively on RTÉjr Radio every Sunday morning, from 10 to 11am. To listen, you can tune in via the RTÉjr Radio channel on the Radio Player, or listen on a digital radio via the RTÉjr channel. You can also hear us via the RTÉjr website

Sunday October 2nd, 10am

Once upon a time there were three princesses - one had very long hair, one loved to sleep and one travelled around in a pumpkin! On today's Classical Kids we'll hear music written for all three and we'll travel the world with music written for a Spanish bullfighter, an American cowboy and an English major general.

Sunday October 9th, 10am

We've a great new recording of Peter and the Wolf starting this morning, where Peter moves to California and tries to catch the escaped wolf using a giant robot! We'll also hear about Scheherazade, who took 1,001 nights to tell The Tales of the Arabian Nights to King Sharayar, keeping him entertained so he wouldn't chop off her head! The stories inspired imaginative music, and today we'll hear music written for the story of Aladdin by Nielsen and Sinbad by Rimsky-Korsakov.
