As individuals, a solution to Ireland’s economic woe can seem beyond our control. But if each of us changes even one of our spending habits, together our combined effort can have a national impact. Our cash has the power to create and sustain jobs - switching to local goods and services can make all the difference.

Economists at IBEC say that if everyone in our trail-blazing town of Drogheda spent only €1 a week more in the local economy, it would be worth €1.82m this year, creating up to 27 new jobs.

Support the Local Heroes campaign and help boost employment in your town.

Use the Local Heroes coupon. Get discount or promotion offers on products and services that support local jobs. Not only are you safeguarding direct employees but everyone along the chain as well. Buying one pack of sausages sustains 20 jobs from farmer through butcher, right up to shop owner. (Source: Love Irish Food)

Make a pledge. For example, did you know it could generate over €250m a year for the Irish economy if every household switched from two imported food and drink products a week to two made in Ireland? You’d be protecting the future of 230,000 direct and indirect jobs. (Source: Love Irish Food)

Set up or join a Local Heroes Group. You could help get everyone in the community working together for a common goal - to come up with a fresh plan to boost jobs and give your town a brighter future. Tell your friends and family, so they can get involved too. The more people becoming Local Heroes, the greater the impact we can all have.
